It’s no secret that Maine temperatures can fall below freezing, and that can wreak serious havoc on your pipes.
When pipes are exposed to below-freezing temps, the combination of that exposure and the wind chill can cause any water in the pipes to expand and freeze. The expansion of ice inside the pipes can lead to a buildup of pressure that can potentially rupture the pipe. A rupture can cause the release of hundreds of gallons of water, which can cause extensive (and expensive) property damage.
If the temperatures are falling outside, be on the lookout for no or low water pressure. Check the faucets in your home or business. If you turn on a faucet and nothing or only a thin stream of water comes out, your pipe may be frozen.
